LWEP CELEBRATES 5TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Alan Mulally, President &
CEO of Ford Motor Company, expressed his pride in Ford for being an LWEP Sponsor for each of our 5-years.
In honor of its 5-year anniversary, the Loyola Work Experience Program (LWEP) was delighted to have Alan Mulally, president and CEO of Ford Motor Company, serve as speaker for this year’s luncheon.

As part of his presentation on hope and optimism for the future of Ford Motor Company, Mr. Mulally stressed how important it is for Ford and other organizations to participate in LWEP in helping to shape young men for the future. "As corporate leaders, we are helping to shape future workers, business owners and entrepreneurs who will be the backbones of our workforce and communities."

James Davis ’08 offered the prayer before the meal, while Loyola’s president, Father Dave Mastrangelo, S.J., welcomed the luncheon guests and introduced Mr. Mulally.

LWEP Director, Sharron Solomon, opened the program and introduced Loyola alumnus Evan Jenkins ’04. One of the first LWEP participants, Evan completed his work experience at Ford. He spoke about how much he benefited from the LWEP program and appreciates the myriad skills and knowledge he gained that have continued to assist him through his college years.

This year’s "Ford –LWEP Team" includes Alan Mulally, Allen Gaines ’08, Terrell Swartz ’08, Randell Nichols ’08, William Vaughan, Ford Community Relations, and Marty Molloy, Vice President Labor Affairs.

Invited guests engaged in conversation during lunch with Loyola staff and students from the class of 2008. Senior Sturleng Hall commented, "I really enjoyed the luncheon. It gave me an opportunity to meet other people from R. L. Polk and Company and interact with my supervisor in a more relaxed atmosphere."

The 5th annual LWEP luncheon was a wonderful milestone celebration. We are very grateful to Cathy and Norman Schmitt for their giving spirit and willingness to host the event for another year.

Evan Jenkins ’04 shares his experience as an LWEP worker at Ford Motor Company the first year Loyola began the program. Evan is currently a senior at UDM.

Cathy Schmitt, who along with husband Norm has hosted the luncheon for each of the five years, thanks the Sponsors for their efforts on behalf of the Loyola Juniors and seniors.
